Torah primarily refers to the first section of the Tanakh which is an acronym that identifies the Hebrew Bible and is based on the initial Hebrew letters of each of the text's three parts. The word Torah can also be used to refer to the entire Jewish bible which to non-Jews is called the Old Testament.
To the Jews there is no Old Testament. This is a list of the books of Written Torah, in the order in which they appear in Jewish translations. The Hebrew names of the first five books are derived from the first few words of the book.
The text of each book is fairly similar in Jewish translations as what you see in Christian bibles, although there are some occasional slight differences in the numbering of verses and there are some significant differences in the translations.
Torah The Law : Bereishith In the beginning To the Jews the Torah has a total of commandments which includes the ten from the Decalogue. Traditional Rabbinical Jewish belief is that these commandments apply solely to the Jewish people. Many of these laws were instituted because of sin example Passover and hence were in fact only for the Jews because the Gospel did not go to the Gentiles until after the sacrificial law ended at the cross. A person may sin against me and hate me. I will punish his children, even his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God. I punish the children for the sin of their parents. I punish the grandchildren and great grandchildren of those who hate me. I will not share your affection with any other god! The Lord will punish anyone who is guilty and misuses his name. The Lord will find guilty anyone who misuses his name. You will not escape punishment if you do.
On that day no one may do any work: not you, your son or daughter, or your men or women slaves. Neither your animals nor the foreigners living in your cities may work. Don't do any work--not you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your servant, nor your maid, nor your animals, not even the foreign guest visiting in your town. Do not do any work on that day. The same command applies to your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and your animals. It also applies to any outsiders who live in your cities.
On that day you are to do no work of any kind, nor shall your son, daughter, or slaves-- whether men or women-- or your cattle or your house guests. He made the sky, earth, sea and everything in them. And on the seventh day, he rested.

Then you will live a long time in the land the Lord your God is giving you. You must not want his wife or his men or women slaves. You must not want his ox or his donkey. What is the answer? You know the answer. It is YES! A thousand times yes! In Luke , our Saviour predicted that a Sodom-like moral condition would precede His return to this earth.
Now is the time for every Christian home to stand as an example of right living. Remember, you can't write SIN in big letters without the law of God. This seventh commandment must stand, or our civilization will go down in disregarding it. Explanation: According to police and press reports, the world still needs this commandment. Explanation: This commandment forbids bribery and forgery and even the least suggestion contrary to truth. It forbids libel, slander, and backbiting, and calls for the truth and nothing but the truth.
If Paul needed this commandment, so do we. The reason why some people oppose the Ten Commandments is that their lives are out of harmony with God's will as expressed in them. You see, our obligations are not merely to a law, but to Him who enacted that law. God is good, so His commandments are also good.
The evil is in us, not in God or in His commandments. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
